Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is reportedly leaning towards joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer, despite strong interest from Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old English international prefers to stay in London, making Spurs a more attractive option compared to a move to Tyneside.

That is according to the latest report from Football Insider, which claims that the player is not keen on a move to Newcastle.

The report states that Gallagher’s priority is to stay at Chelsea, and if that is not possible, a move within London is his preferred choice.

Gallagher’s contract with Chelsea runs until June 2025, but with his future at Stamford Bridge uncertain, Tottenham has emerged as a viable destination. Spurs are keen to bolster their midfield and view Gallagher as a valuable addition to their squad.

The Lilywhites have held a long-standing interest in the Chelsea skipper, dating back to last summer, with the club even submitting a bid on deadline day. Nevertheless, the deal failed to materialise.

It was thought that they would return for him in the January window, but Spurs decided to hold it out until this summer.

This season, Gallagher has been a key player for Chelsea, making 36 Premier League appearances and contributing to 12 goals, scoring 5 and assisting 7.

His performances have caught the attention of several clubs, but his preference to remain in London gives Tottenham an edge in securing his signature.

Tottenham are reportedly planning significant changes in the summer transfer window, with several players expected to come in and many to depart.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is said to be prioritising the signing of a midfielder, a striker, another centre-back, and a full-back.

Chelsea, pressured to sell Gallagher due to Financial Fair Play regulations, find themselves in a position where the player’s preference to stay in London aligns perfectly with Tottenham’s needs. This situation provides a substantial boost to Spurs.
